Description A typed letter from Governor Millard Tawes to Herbert Frisby, Chairman of the Matthew Henson Commemorative Projects dated March 31, 1959. Printed on Executive Department letterhead. Paper has gold embossed Maryland seal at top left corner with "J. MILLARD TAWES | GOVERNOR" in blue ink below. The top center reads "EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT | ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND" in blue ink with "March 31, 1959" below in black ink.

Letter reads:

Matthew Henson Commemorative Projects

Baltimore 16, Maryland

Dear Mr. Frisby:

As you requested, I am pleased to enclose my proclamation designating April 6, 1959, as Matthew A. Henson Day in Maryland. A copy has been sent to Mrs. Henson.
